Africa is a huge continent made up of 55 countries. It is hot dry deserts, snowy peaks, dense tropical forests and open grassy plains. The people and cultures that live there are as diverse as the landscape.
Africa is the birthplace of humanity. It has been home to small independent societies, great civilizations and powerful empires. Its history is intricately linked to Europe, the United States and the rest of the world. Today, some Africans live in small rural villages, others in huge modern cities. Many Africans even live outside of Africa.
