UBUNTU

Africa holds a special place as the cradle of humanity. Understanding how humans have interacted with the environment begins here.

In his song Say Africa, South African musician Vusi Mahlasela sings about the idea of ubuntu. The term refers to "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity"

The People's Music

Vusi Mahlasela played an important role in the anti apartheid movement in South Africa. Many of his songs address social and political topics related to the mistreatment of black South Africans. His song When You Come Back, a favorite of Nelson Mandela, is a "celebration of life dedicated to those people who left the country to go and enlist in the fight against apartheid."
